The Art of Cooking the Perfect Steak
November 10, 2016
When it comes to cooking steak, there are amateurs and there are experts. At Del Frisco’s, our chefs are the best of the best behind the grill and Executive Chef Greg Thompson from Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House in Orlando, Fla. is no exception.
Here are a few tips from Chef Greg on preparing the perfect steak at home.
Keep Seasoning Simple
When it comes to seasoning steak, we keep it very simple. Take a little bit of kosher salt and disperse it evenly across the meat. Next, top it off with some freshly-ground black pepper.
Keep an Eye on the Firmness
Raw steaks are soft, pliable and have some jiggle to them. When steaks are placed on the grill and cooked at a high temperature, the steak contracts and becomes tighter. While cooking, use tongs to check on the texture of the steak to determine doneness. The firmer the steak, the more done it will be.
Let It Rest
Perhaps one of the most important tips is to allow the steak to rest for five to 10 minutes after removing from heat. The juices inside will congeal, producing a juicier, more flavorful steak.
